As our fans know, Haiti was devastated by an earthquake on Tuesday, January 12th. We wanted to let you know that there are many ways that you can help both the short-term and long-term relief efforts. Below are several that My Morning Jacket supports, and you can too. For immediate support, these recovery organizations have been mobilized, and are raising funds to aid in their relief efforts: Oxfam, Doctors Without Borders, Wyclef Jean’s Yele Foundation. In these situations, however, crucial long-term recovery and rebuilding efforts can be underfunded in comparison to immediate relief efforts. These organizations have staff in the country and are well-positioned to aid Haitians in their long-term recovery: Partners in Health, Fonkoze, and The Lambi Fund of Haiti.

Every year, Neil and Pegi Young host the non-profit Bridge School Concert, benefiting the unique learning complex which assists children with severe physical impairments and challenging communication needs. The first was held in 1986, and the event is known as a totally unique musical event. Over the years the line-up of participants reads like a history of rock & roll. Volume IV of Live Recordings From Bridge School Concerts includes My Morning Jacket’s “Gideon” and “Just One Thing” from the October 28th, 2007 Bridge School Concert, and is available exclusively on iTunes. The proceeds from the iTunes digital downloads will be donated to the Bridge School, where one of the thrusts of their learning program is the use of advanced augmentative and alternative communication systems and assistive technology. Over the history of the concerts since 1986, some of the most exciting and surprising performances of live music have become a hallmark of the shows, and most of them are now available for the world to hear and purchase. On Sunday, November 22nd, My Morning Jacket will appear On FOX’s hit TV show “American Dad.” The episode, titled “My Morning Straightjacket,” will feature the band guest-voicing as themselves, as well as 6 MMJ songs spanning their 10-year catalog.  Comedian Zach Galifianakis will also be featured as a super-fan.

To commemorate the show, ATO Records will be releasing a digital EP of songs and selected dialogue clips from the episode. With 6 tracks from the digital EP that have been previously released throughout the band’s ten year career, we intend this to serve as a nice introduction to many who have not heard My Morning Jacket’s music before.

Tune in on Sunday November 22nd to see My Morning Jacket animated as you’ve never seen them before.

hello friends. we are proud to announce and release a lil live ep that was recorded right in our very own hometown of louisville, ky. a few songs were taken from our in-store appearence at our beloved and fabled record haven “ear-x-tacy” and a few of them were taken from our concert at the fabled “waterfront park.” see if you can guess which is from which. we are excited to make this a special release that you can only get at your favorite local independent record store, as now more than ever we all need to take the time to celebrate what our favorite local record stores and businesses mean to us – the value of community/human to human non- internet related physical and spiritual contact and supporting the hardworking people in your community who strive everyday to keep it unique and keep it local. we are fortunate in our travels to get to see many wonderful things, but one of the most distressing things is the increasing “normalization” of the world and how all these places are starting to look the same- everywhere you look more and more towns are starting to be filled with the same gigantic corporations, and while some of these huge companies undoubtably provide valuable services, it is so important that we realize that it is our local businesses and people (and natural landscapes, but thats a different letter) that are what make different towns worth coming to…things you can only get in one place, made and sold by people who believe in what they are doing…people who are trying to keep good weirdness alive in this crazy dome. god* bless all of you, and god* bless the world and all that kinda shit.

yim yames recently had the honor of traveling to new orleans to record live with the legendary preservation hall jazz band in grand old school new orleans fashion. the recordings will be part of a benefit album to raise money for the hall (www.preservationhall.com) which hopefully will be released in the fall. stay tuned for more info.
